A typical budget for Vienna street food and market meals is €15–20 per day(大約HKD 130–175),只要你知去邊度。Vienna is home to a network of Würstelstände(街頭香腸檔)、傳統市場同埋學生食堂,全部係普通維也納人日日去嗰種。The best time to visit Vienna for food market culture is April to October,因為戶外市場全力運作,坐喺外面食嘢仲有陽光。
Würstelstand
呢個組合係維也納最authentic嘅早餐之一,喺Würstelstand am Naschmarkt(地址:Linke Wienzeile,靠近U4 Kettenbrückengasse站出口1)試到。
如果你係素食者,同一個檔口有賣Käsesemmel(芝士包夾生菜,€2,約HKD 17)。
Schnitzel
一個好多人唔知嘅事:Wiener Schnitzel係唔配薯條㗎,係配Kartoffelsalat(凍薯仔沙律,用醋同芥末撈,唔係mayonnaise)。
Apfelstrudel

How much does a Wiener Schnitzel cost in Vienna?
A Wiener Schnitzel in Vienna ranges from €8.9 at a local Gasthaus in outer districts like Ottakring to €20–25 at tourist-area restaurants near the first district. For the best value, head to Gasthaus Quell in the 16th district — Schnitzel with potato salad costs €8.9 (about HKD 77). Avoid anywhere near the Ringstrasse that shows Schnitzel with fries on the menu; that's usually the overpriced tourist version.
Is Vienna expensive for food? Can you eat cheap in Vienna?
Vienna can be expensive if you stick to tourist-area restaurants, where a main course easily hits €20+. But Vienna also has a strong everyday food culture — Würstelstände (sausage stands) serve a full breakfast for under €5, Naschmarkt has €4 falafel wraps, and Billa supermarkets sell discounted hot food from around 3pm. A realistic daily food budget eating like a local is €14–18 (approximately HKD 122–157).
What is the best time to visit Vienna for food markets?
The best time to visit Vienna for food markets is April to October, when Naschmarkt operates at full capacity and outdoor seating is available. Naschmarkt is open Monday to Friday 06:00–19:30 and Saturday 06:00–18:00, and is closed Sundays. Winter months (November–February) are still good for indoor market halls and Christmas markets, but the outdoor food stall culture is at its peak in warmer months.
How do I get around Vienna to eat cheaply — is the U-Bahn worth it?
Yes. A single U-Bahn trip costs €2.40 (about HKD 21), but a 24-hour day pass is €8 (about HKD 70) and covers unlimited travel on all U-Bahn, tram, and bus lines. If you're hitting Naschmarkt (U4 Kettenbrückengasse), Mariahilfer Strasse Billa (U3 Neubaugasse), and an outer-district Gasthaus in one day, the day pass pays for itself quickly. Buy tickets at station machines — English language option is available on all machines.
What language do people speak in Vienna, and do restaurants have English menus?
Vienna's official language is German (Austrian dialect). However, English is widely spoken in the city centre, and most restaurants in tourist-adjacent areas have English menus or staff who can explain dishes. At local Gasthäuser in outer districts like Ottakring or Brigittenau, English menus may be basic — Google Translate's camera function works well on German menus. Naschmarkt vendors and Würstelstand operators typically speak enough English to take your order.
Is Vienna safe for solo female travellers?
Vienna is consistently ranked among Europe's safest cities. Vienna is safe for solo female travellers day and night, including on the U-Bahn and in market areas. The City of Vienna official website notes the city regularly ranks in the top three globally for quality of life and safety indices. Standard city awareness applies — keep an eye on your bag in crowded Naschmarkt — but it's genuinely one of the most comfortable European cities to navigate alone.
